Eugene (KMTR) - A bird gets struck, stuck, and taken on the ride of his life on Interstate 5.

The Red Tailed hawk was hit on Christmas Eve on I-5 near the Goshen exit.

The impact left the bird stuck in the grill of the truck.

The driver called for help as soon as he got to the Pepsi facility on McVay Highway.

According to Laurin Huse at the Cascades Raptor Center, the bird was caught between the grill and rock shield.

"Immediately it was clear that there was a bad fracture of one of the wings. It was flopping around very unnaturally."

The bird will undergo surgery on Thursday, and the chances of it making a full recovery are uncertain.

Huse says the hawk is very healthy and fit.

The Cascades Raptor Center sees up to two hundred injured birds each year.

They also see and treat several hit by cars.

There is a follow-up story from the same source, the next day.
EUGENE (KMTR) – A red-tailed hawk, hit by a delivery driver is recovering from surgery.

Doctors repaired the bird’s wing at the Cascades Raptor Center in Eugene on Thursday. A pin made from a pig’s bladder is holding the elbow together. The material helps build the right kind of tissue. It’ll be several weeks before they know if he’ll fly again. The bird was hit Christmas Eve on I-5 and ended up in the grill of a Pepsi
