CUMBERLAND, Md. - Maryland's Natural Resources Police are investigating the fatal shooting of a bald eagle near Cumberland.

The agency said Monday that the bird was found Friday afternoon several miles north of town on Hazen Road along Evitts Creek.

Investigators say the mature bird had been dead no more than a week.

Bald eagles are protected by the federal Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act. A first offense by an individual carries a maximum penalty of one year in prison and a $100,000 fine.

I'm really hating right now!  Sad
