http://blogs.democratandchronicle.com/birds/2011/09/30/whimbrel-displays-a-necessary-function/ story

I mentioned in a recent posting that the Whimbrel with the bad leg, which has been hanging out at the busy area around the Latta Road Wegmans store in Greece, was nonetheless able to do the basic things it needs to do to stay alive. Despite its limp, it was clearly able to find plenty of food to eat. Capture it. And, when necessary, fly.  And at least as of Friday, it was somehow managing to avoid being hit by cars, despite flying back and forth across Long Pond Road.
