KINGSVILLE, Ont. -- When Katherine Plouffe and Steve Bennett heard a great grey owl had been sighted in Kingsville, they grabbed their binoculars, hopped in the car and drove for 12 hours from New Hampshire.

Hi gang..Carol hang in one more winter, there should be a bunch of Great Grays around. Every 7 years there is an irruption of them. Last time was 2005 when it was one of the biggest ever. An estimated 400 were in and around southern Ontario. It was the deepest irruption ever, with some showing up far into the US.
Within an hours drive of Toronto and right in Toronto in 2005 I saw 22 Great Gray Owls. 17 Were around one field. It was truely amazing. The first 2 I saw were at Tommy Thompson Park, which has a view right to downtown Toronto.  I didnt have a great camera back then so my pics arent worthy of posting here, but I sure have them for memories. Im looking forward to next winter and a Great Gray Owl extraviganza!
