RIDGEWOOD – Authorities are trying to capture a turkey vulture with an arrow through its chest so they can take it to a veterinarian, a borough animal control officer said Wednesday.

Carol Tyler of Tyco Animal Control, which does animal control for the borough, said her company received a call about the turkey vulture at 4 p.m. Tuesday but that an employee was unable to capture the bird as it flew from the roof of one house to another.

Tyler said what appears to be a hunting arrow went through the turkey vulture’s back and is sticking out of its breast, but apparently didn’t hit any major organs.

“It’s flying around from rooftop to rooftop and from tree to tree,” she said. “We’ll probably find that the arrow just went through soft tissue. Hopefully, this will have a happy ending.”

A New Milford man was charged with animal cruelty in March for allegedly shooting a wild goose in the foot with a crossbow arrow.   Sad
