UK Rarities

Have a look at these beauties! I have seen a few - like the Bee-Eater and Egret - in Ireland... the excitement! The others, not so much. Only on the Continent. Are there rarities that grace our area/ROC? I would be interested to hear about them.

(Hmmmm... perhaps "two" is not quite "a few"...)

A few years ago Monk Parrots were found nesting here. Not sure if they're still around-haven't been seen in a while that I know of.

I enjoyed seeing the Great Egret who visited the Genesee River in downtown Rochester for several weeks last summer.  They're not unknown in these parts, but I think they're seen pretty rarely here.

There had been a beautiful egret and a good-sized blue heron a few years ago that spent a few summers at Lake Riley  (Cobb's Hill Park) across from the Armory, both in the lake for long periods of time and the blue heron sitting atop the lamp posts at other times--they were just beautiful!  Christiane
