THIEVES stole rare birds eggs from a nest in the Thornhill area.
A police wildlife officer said he is “totally aghast” at the theft of the wild peregrine falcon eggs.
It is thought that they could find their way onto the black market and be bought by collectors.
Nests in the region are regularly inspected by bird protection groups to monitor for the presence of eggs.
It was during a routine check that the nest was found to be empty.
In Britain, there has been a recovery of populations of peregrine falcon eggs since the crash of the 1960s. This is mainly due to the conservation and protection work led by the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds.
Constable John Jamieson, force wildlife crime co-ordinator said: “I am totally aghast that such an incident has been reported to us and would like to remind the public that an offence against wildlife is a crime and will on all occasions be investigated vigorously.”
Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact police on 0845 600 5701 or any police officer. Information can also be left anonymously with Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
Whoa, this is getting crazy!

Hey Donna!
Would you believe that this type of thing can even happen in protected areas? We (the L.A. Zoo) have endangered whistling ducks in our aviary. The female laid a clutch of 9 eggs and would you believe...
ONE OF THE ZOO VISITORS STOLE 4 OF THEM!!!!
The good news is that we have 5 healthy ducklings!

Wow Judi, I guess NO eggs are safe. Pretty sad people have to steal them for their own greed. Glad you have 5 though. Congrats!
