Thank God Chewey is without egg now so Donna can sleep peacefully tonight!
Thank goodness Chewey is alright! You Too! That situation happened too many times to my Winnie.
It was usually on the third egg. They run out of calcium, and there are a number of other things that come in to play. Most of the time, they could induce it with oxytocin -- or is it pitocin? And they would "express" the egg, but one time they had to collapse the egg and extract it. That was the most serious time.
If Chewey continues to lay, look into Lupron . We were finally getting Winnie's egg laying undercontrol when she developed heart disease.
We had talked about a surgical solution with Dr Wade prior to trying lupron, but that 's when she discovered the heart murmur and subsequent heart disease. Lupron may be the answer if it continues, and Donna, once Winnie started with eggs, she kept it up. Good luck.
