LONG BEACH - For a while at least, the re-tern was a feel-good story. Until, that is, it took a turn for the worse.

Jay Holcomb, the director emeritus of International Bird Rescue, called "bittersweet" the discovery of a Caspian tern his group had saved as a chick six years ago but ultimately had to euthanize because of a badly broken wing.
