Yes, the decline of bats is a terrible thing. This white-nose syndrome has been around quite a while and very little has been found to help stop it.
Bats are not cute and most people fear them, but they are efficient pollinators as well as predators of insects that attack crops. It would be nice if funds were set aside to find a cure BEFORE many of our crops are endangered instead of AFTER the damage has been done. Honeybees, another major pollinator, also are in serious decline. Sooner or later many of the farm-grown grains and fruits we now take for granted are going to be very scarce and very expensive. Let's hope help comes before then.
