Today when I was working in my garden a pigeon landed on the wooden thing (picture 1)
She was very close to me, suddenly I heard: "plats" or something like that,  I looked up and saw a broken egg right under the pigeon. I know it really is a pigeon egg. The egg was empty, there was nothing inside, no kind of liquid orso.
I'm sure two minutes before the moment the shells were not there!! So I'm wondering what happened, is it possible that a pigeon lays an empty egg a  kind of test egg orso?

Without getting too graphic, my guess on empty would be yes, based on monthly human cycles etc. etc (and I do know that process is different).  As for simply "dropping an egg", my wild duck Diane (I wrote about her a year or so back) dropped an egg on our swim platform early one morning.  The egg was broken and it was breakfast time, so we enjoyed the very freshest duck egg.  I'm not going to waste a gift like that!

Thanks Janet and Nycbird!
It both sounds logical.
I think now I will look all the time when I see a pigeon if there is a shell stick to her feathers.laugh

The intact piece of the egg looks like a baby had already been born from that egg.  Often the shell will "stick" to the feathers of the adult because of the moisture still on the shell (after the birth) adheres to her feathers and gets carried away from the nest.  When "Papa" switches brooding with "Mama" and she goes for her breakfast & "poop" time, the stuck shell will become dislodged and appear to be "laid" at the place it is observed.

OH, now that sounds very logical - Thanks!  (Learned something new  thumbsup)

Thanks!
I found the second egg circa 5 meters ( thats 200 inch I think)  from the first egg.
I looked at all trees in the neighborhood if I could  find a nest,  but nothing!
I keep looking for them.

Wow, what a lot of information.  Thanks so much.  I had no idea how or where pigeons lay eggs.
