February 2017: The falcon pair continues to bond at the nest site.
Late February: A second female is spotted on the falcon cam. Drama ensues as she attempts to claim the nest site. This distraction could possibly cause a delay in mating and breeding.

(Has this been going on that long??)

Don't know Donna if that female at the start of month was Cadence or another female.

I expect if it was Cadence early on this month she was just doing recon work because watching how relentless she has been the past 24 hours - honestly she is one strong female and I doubt anyone would survive weeks given how hard she's been attacking.  Seriously anytime the resident female took to the air you'd see Cadence just swoop down on her.  The resident female spent most of the morning crouching down in in front of the nestbox posturing with her head down low and her wings out around her body.

The injured female:

The male:

I am glad that Cadence is alive and well, but I also feel really bad for the resident female, injured just as she is laying her eggs.

Agreed Alison, it's never a happy time when someone is injured.  All their lives are important and special. It is bittersweet for sure.

Male left for a few minutes and flew back in at 4.38.  I saw a larger female in the distance at the same time, she flew to, I'm assuming, the top of the building and he went back into the igloo and on eggs.

Yeah she looks exhausted Donna.  She did the same thing last night, came to the box towards dusk where it's somewhat safe for her.  I expect she knows Cadence will need to eat and rest and darkness will fall soon and she can rest up for another day.

Wonder if the male is being cordial or could he be helping his mate? No, he looks too clean!!  I'm having a hard time watching so I'm shutting the cam down. Too sad for me and I don't sleep well with this buzzing around in my head!

I hate to see any bird injured, and she does not deserve this. She wanted this nest so much.

The eggs are okay so far:

She came out of the nest, and left again.

I'm with Donna-I can't watch when a challenge like this is happening. I just hope both survive...
