Mercury in general

This was a great piece of local history - thanks DianaR! Tobacco really was king back in the day! My mother during WWII lived in Canada for a short period (she had married a man who family had come from Holland origianlly, had a farm in Canada {I'm thinking Ontario} and ended up in North Haledon, NJ). Anyway, she always told us about the fields of tobacco in Canada, so finding out that Rochester had a tobacco company makes a LOT of sense to me. I must admit that I miss the fields of it growing and the sheds open during drying here in Southern MD. Now, many of the fields sprout only weeds and the sheds are falling down....

They should harvest some of that weed. I hear a lot of people will buy it.

Not likely in MD or VA, the tobacco capitals of the US...

I quote: "There were 24,710 arrests for marijuana offenses in Maryland in 2007, representing an arrest rate of 440 per 100,000, which ranks Maryland at number 4 in the nation."
You don't think it was all imported do you?

Actually, I don't know. I really am that out of touch. The anti-cigarette gang in Annapolis had me believing they were anti-smoke.

Not hardly...
Just think of the revenue it would bring if it were an "official" crop.
