Peregrine Falcon on Irondequoit Bay
«

On Monday evening May 10th, Kathy O, Brain H and I watched an actionless falcon on Old Changing Scenes. We discussed the loss of a couple of eagle's nests due to the high winds in surrounding areas, and wondered about the Irondequoit Bay eagles. Kathy headed home, and Brian and I checked it out. The eagles were flying, one approached the nest, and we confirmed everything was normal.
As we were watching the eagles, Brian yelled, "I see a falcon." Brian pointed and I got my camera focused on what I thought he was looking at, and clicked away. At 7:46 pm we caught a glimpse of a what we thought was a peregrine flying across the middle of the Bay from west to east.
The sighting only lasted a minute. Most of the shots of the bird were silhouetted, but the last few definitely confirmed we indeed had a peregrine falcon. The question remains, is it anyone we know?

Irondequoit Bay Peregrine Falcon 5/10/10
As a follow up, Kathy O and Brian H went to check out the Irondequoit Bay Bridge Tuesday afternoon. They checked the bridge from several locations and report there is no place for a scrape on the bridge. They spoke to someone on the dock south of the bridge who said he knows what a peregrine looks like, and that he saw one in the morning. Brian wonders...Is there a possibility that there is a natural nestsite on the bay's cliffside?

:clap:Good for you for getting such good shots of the PF over the bay. The conditions were not great Monday night. That split wing photo does offer some hope....could it be? That would be so wonderful! Thank you for your dedication, and I know that you watchers will track down who this is!

Joyce, have you shown Dan these pictures?
It sure looks like a split wing to me. And it would fit-- Mariah has been in Irond. Fingers crossed.

No, I only posted it here last night, hoping someone will get a second sighting. Brain hasn't even seen the pics yet either.

This would be wonderful! I also really think that I saw a peregrine on Sunday near Mt. Read.

I know a few of us will be looking on the weekend, and some will try during the week. We're hoping for a repeated sighting, since we are not sure if it is a resident, migrating or wandering falcon like Quest.
Anyone who lives in the Rochester and wants to

I wish I could but I'm in Nunda for a couple weeks house and animal sitting. Darn!
