WELLINGTON, New Zealand – A young Emperor penguin took a rare wrong turn from the Antarctic and ended up stranded on a New Zealand beach — the first time in 44 years the aquatic bird has been sighted in the wild in the South Pacific country.

Oh my, the poor baby. Maybe he will be there when Jeff goes to Antarctica this Aug. and he can hitch a ride with him.

Poor little guy took a wrong turn and is alone in NZ. Experts say it is too expensive and dangerous to rescue him so he has to find his own way back

I asked Jeff if Pengy could hitch a ride back to Antarctica with him in Aug? He departs from NZ.
His reply: "I don't think I could get him through Customs"... and YES, he is going again !!

He was on FNC last night - cute little guy - disease was one of the reasons cited for leaving him to his own devices.

It won't make it right, but sometimes young Osprey fly East instead of South. Sometimes they find a boat to land on, but the usually don't. Their navigation systems go haywire and they head for Europe instead of South America.

Emperor penguin takes turn for the worse
The condition of an Antarctic emperor penguin which ended up thousands of kilometres from home on a New Zealand beach has deteriorated, with fears it might be sick.

I can't believe there is nothing they can do! Just let it die?

The people in NZ put up a fuss and the penguin has been moved to the zoo for treatment. I hope the little one makes it:
