I couldn't believe this when I saw it on the news today.  Those poor people.   Sad

Gigi was about 2 miles away at the barn with Bandit, her horse.

From her e-mail: "No, I did not get caught up in that freak wind gust - sort of.  Bad weather had been forecast, but that had been hit or miss.  I was coming home from the barn and had just been outside with Bandit while he was grazing.  He kept wandering in to the tomato garden so I put him up and left.  Skies above us were clear with seemingly no signs of trouble while I was outside with him .

As soon as I turned the corner I could see that the sky to my west was pitch black with lightning.  It seemed pretty far away, but  I called the barn to tell the 2 riders who were outside in the big open field to get inside fast.  I was really concerned about the lightning, not the wind.  That was at 8:47 and the stage had toppled at 8:45. My car was really shaking with the wind and leaves and trash were blowing across the road fairly vigorously, but I never suspected that just 2 miles away, it had been deadly.

Such a tragedy.  The fair was closed today with plans to reopen tomorrow morning with a prayer service.  I am sure they are working to reschedule all of the competitions.  I may go out tomorrow morning to pay my respects...."
