Help!

This is from a local friend-I'm putting it out there although I told her to leave it alone, the mother will eventually take care of them.
Everyone, I need help! The wind knocked over a robin's nest today and there are 3 babies in it. Just a few feathers, certainly not able to fly. We put the nest back into the tree, and the mother seems to know where it is, but she won't get into it. I dug worms for them tonight and they went right to sleep. What can I do with them if the mother doesn't come back? Is there anywhere around here that takes in baby birds?

Oh boy, I hate these stories. I agree Kris, as long as momma knows where they are, she should go back to them. Robins are so skiddish around people. She's probably just waiting to go back. They have been known to dive bomb us humans. Let us know!!

I agree-leave them be and Momma will return. Remember how long it takes for parent Pefas to return after banding? She's watching over the territory and waiting for the human to stop fussing over her babies!

Thanks! I'll reassure her that leaving them alone is the right thing to do.

I know from our front porch broods that Robins are very careful not to reveal their nest locations. The mother will not return to the nest while she knows that she is being watched.

Sounds like very good advice from everyone. You'll have to let us know what happens with the Robins Kris.

Got this update from my friend today:
We left the birds alone last night, but the mother chirped incessantly for a while. She got within a couple of feet from the nest but wouldn't go in. This morning I got up and there were two in the nest -they were both dead. I have no idea what happened to the third one. I felt so bad, they were darling little things. Sometimes nature is cruel.

Oh phooey! Maybe they were injured in the fall. She still did the right thing, but it stinks.
