A red-tailed hawk caused a real flap Sunday by crash landing inside an upper West Side building.
The bird, which flew into the W. 80th St. walkup through an open window, was sitting outside Joe Moderski's apartment when he returned around 3:30 p.m.
He was checking his mail when suddenly he was startled by the hawk, which had come in on the third floor and had been flying around hallways.
"I've never been that close to a hawk," Moderski said. "It's not what you expect to see outside your fifth-floor walkup."
Emergency Service Unit cops turned the hawk, which was injured, over to Animal Care & Control workers.
"I thought I missed a pillow fight in the hallway or something," Moderski said. "There were feathers everywhere."
ESU officers carefully removed the red tailed hawk who was found at the doorstep of a 5th floor W90th St. apartment.
