A hawk hired to rid a senior living community of a flock of grackles was killed on the job. A falconer was using four hawks to hunt grackles, which had been making a mess at the senior center. One of the hawks chased cowbirds into an electric pole and was electrocuted.
"It's one of the hazards that we falconers face. There is no way to get away from power poles and you lose a bird that way and it's kind of sad," said Roger Crandall with Fal-Tech Inc.
The falconer says the grackles have left although it took a day longer than expected.
