I received a message from my friend Melanie Piccolo in Buffalo of a possible territory take over at Central Terminal. Diamante was found injured and taken to a rehabber.

How sad for them. Poor Diamante, I know he will heal but will not have his nest back after all these years! I hope Glieg is OK!!  Why fight now??? Grrr!! Thanks for the info MAK!  crying

Fighting now because there are so many Peregrines out there and most of them don't migrate so they're looking for a territory.  Sad

Anything is possible as we learn all the time with these creatures. We'll need an ID on any and all that are seen there. Heavy sigh... Sad

I'm surprised there was that much territorial fighting this time of the year. Anyhow, get well soon, Diamonte!

I am very sad that Diamante has been injured, but very grateful to the person who found him. At least he is being cared for and receiving the help he needs. Hoping for a complete recovery for this special tiercel.

I also hope that Gleig is okay. She is a big, strong falcon, which may help her defend her territory.

Sage posted this on Peregrine Place four hours ago:

So sorry to have to share this. Gleig's beautiful mate Diamante' is the injured Peregrine who is being treated now at the Wildlife Division of the SPCA of Erie County.

He had surgery for the puncture wound to his neck. He also has a broken wing and other injuries. I will post updates as they are available.

His severe injuries lead us to think It was a fight for the nest site. I will go check the site tomorrow to see if Gleig is onsite or gone.

Some history: Gleig and Diamante' took over the site from Stash and Stella and Stella was found dead on the roof the next spring. This is life as a Peregrine Falcon.

I checked this site last Thursday and found Gleig on the perch and Diamante' on the ledge under the perch. It seemed they were having a conversation. Friday she was on her perch and Diamante' was near the top of the tower on a lookout point. I wonder if he knew there was another Peregrine nearby.

Hang tough, Diamante and Gleig!  With the DNA of Mariah and Kaver in Diamante, and the DNA of Madame X and Surge in Gleig, hanging tough comes naturally to both them.

And she did add a pic. Hopefully this bird is Gleig, on her favorite perch.
