Quest Feels The Heat, Heads Coastward

Quest Travels Mar 27- Apr 4

Quest spent the last days of March near Prince Edward County, but in April she took a different path.  First she went north, then she turned south-east.  Her movements over the past few days have been in nearly a straight line.  She’s been covering a lot of ground and it looks like she could be headed for the coast of Maine.

Quest got to enjoy the unseasonably warm weather that affected the northeast portions of North America over the weekend.  Her transmitter’s temperature sensor recorded a reading as high as 31°C on the 3rd of April. So she’s definitely moving around a lot. It’s likely that means she hasn’t attracted a mate, though of course we can’t say that for sure. We’ll just have to keep watching to see where she ends up.

Maybe she’ll head back to Nantucket. She seemed to like it there. As far as a mate?? No rush, she’s exploring. GO QUEST! Hope her transmitter doesn’t die out soon. It’s getting close.

  2. Maureen in MA Says:

I hope she stays in the northern lands and avoids the busy touristy spots of summer like Nantucket. Although it is exciting to see her travels so I’m with Donna in hoping Quest’s transmitter holds out a little longer, at least for 2010! 😀

    Gracias para las noticias! LMO

Now I understand why peregrine falcons are called wanderers. I’m sure there are tiercels out there doing the same. If Quest is out there searching for a mate, how long does she have before she has to wait another year? ~Joyce

Isn’t she full of surprises! Click through to the larger map and she’s plotted over the Portland, Maine area on Sunday.

  6. Melissa in MA Says:

Augh, the thought of no more Quest updates is depressing! 🙁
Until such time, it is always a treat and so interesting to find
    an update of her travels……

  7. Kris in Rochester Says:

The newest update (April 7) has her right back at Lennox! Apparently, that was just a weekend getaway to the coast of Maine. 🙂

  8. chicki Says:

    She’s baaaaack!

  9. chrissy Says:

She IS back. . maybe the osprey didn’t chase her off after all!

  10. Lennoxman Says:

Wow, that Quest sure gets around… I can’t believe she’s back at Lennox. The pair of osprey were first sighted here on Tuesday after the long weekend. They’re busy with home improvements. I just checked the nest box to see if Quest was there but I didn’t see her. I’ve hired a Biologist to conduct a biological site survey over the course of the next few months. If anyone can spot Quest, I’m sure this professional can.

Thanks, Lennoxman. This could get interesting! Better keep your hard hat handy. 😉
