Fledge Watch Continues…Tesh Returns to Times Square Bldg, Nor’easter’s Injured Wing and Mercury & Nettie are Flying High! – 7/2/14
By Rochester Falcon Watcher Carol P.
Today it was evident that Nor’easter has injured his left wing after hitting the wall above the well, next to the nest box yesterday. The same day that Tesh was swept off the well wall by a strong wind gust. June Summers of the Genesee Valley Audubon Society has been in touch with the DEC. They will keep a close eye on the situation, as well as their many watchers both here in Rochester (NY) and the folks watching the Rfalconcam cameras.
After spending the evening on the nearby Thomson Reuters building, Tesh made a few short flights this morning before making it back to the top of the Times Square Bldg, rejoining her family around 9:00 a.m this morning.
When I arrived downtown after work this afternoon, I was greeted by high flying juvies. Both Mercury and Nettie were tearing up the sky while Tesh and Nor’easter watched from the Times Square Bldg. The watchers enjoyed watching both of these young falcons chasing Beauty, their mom, and each other. Invaluable lessons for their future. Hopefully both Tesh and Nor’easter will join them soon.
Watchers this afternoon/evening included MAK, Dana, Carrie, Kathy O, Lisa McK, Pat, Susan C, Larry O, Dan, Joyce and me, Carol P.
Here are some pictures from today’s fledge watch. Enjoy and goodnight!

Thank you for the report, update and photos. I know all of us are worried about Nor’easter and hope time and rest will help him heal. He was alert and watched the family. He perked up when he was visited by Nettie and Mercury. Thank you so much.

What an amazing group, and community (including RPD), effort has been put into watching over the Rochester Peregrine Falcons…especially with all the surprises of the past couple days! My brother, Rich, even emailed he’d seen two of them flying above him over the river today. Thank you for your report, Carol, and a special Thank you, also, to all of the other dedicated Watchers. Nor’Easter comes from good stock, so I’m very hopeful that he’ll recover, and fly with his family once again.

I’m relieved both that Tesh made it home, and that the GVAC and the DEC have been notified of Nor’e’s injury. One photo shows him flexing both wings, so hopefully he’s just bruised. Still, it’s good to know the professionals are standing by. Thanks for all the time and energy you falcon watchers donate to our winged residents!
