Fledge Watch 6-17-15
By Rochester Falcon Watcher MAK
It was cooler and less humid today with a bit of a breeze-I think the high was in the 70’s
It was a slow morning-Genesee spent most of it on the east side of the Wilder building. Cadence and Bronx did a lot of flapping which helped them later in the day as they both fledged within a half hour of each other.Bronx went around 2:45pm and Cadence around 3:15pm. Beauty and Dot.Ca (DC) did a lot of fly by’s to entice their 3 offspring to join them in the air. I spent some time up on the roof of the South Ave. garage in order to keep track of everyone , especially Genesee.
Fast forward to the afternoon as Bronx flew from the wall up the north side of Times Square then back straight for the Wilder building. As he approached Genesee came running out from behind the standpipe to the southeast corner and then Bronx tried to land on the Wilder chimney. He came up short and would hang on the bricks with his talons. Eventually, he was able to fight his way up to the top. Meanwhile, Genesee had flown off Wilder and ended up on Crossroads. Half hour later Cadence fledged and ended up on the Powers building.
As if 2 fledges wasn’t enough Bronx left the chimney and went to the North side near the flag pole and Genesee tried to fly from one side to another on Crossroads over the balconies and missed the landing. He started to spiral down managing to miss crashing on a balcony, caught himself and flew to OCSR where he crashed into a window. He caught himself once more on the way down then disappeared down Main St. where watchers witnessed him hitting the glass on Crossroads and ending up on a west side window ledge 6 floors up on Wilder.
Cadence was smart and stayed put on the Powers building-the sun was right behind her so I didn’t get pics of her as they would just be silhouetted. I left Main and State St. where Genesee and Cadence could be seen for the hole where Bronx was in view as he came down to the south side roof following in his brothers’ footsteps from the previous night when Genesee fledged and spent the night near the standpipe.
I ended my watch 14 hours after I started at 7:30am with so much drama that it didn’t seem that long. Watchers throughout the day were-Dan,Mary,Carol,LarryPatty,Kathy,Pat,Joyce,Brian,Susan,Shaky,Carrie,Dana, Lou and myself. There was plenty to smile about as we had 3 successful fledges with no apparent injuries in the last 24 hours! 🙂

Great pics and report, MAK! The kids gave you all a workout on this day..poor Genesee, I hope his days are going to be better. Is the one building with all the reflective glass, OCSR? If it is, I’ve never noticed in all the times we’ve been downtown that it was like that! Thanks again for all you watchers do to keep the babies safe!

Thank you ladies!
Kris, that reflection of the Times Square building in the glass is Crossroads at the northeast corner of Main and State St.
Donna, I miss having you here with me for those 14 hour days!
Diane, Genesee has been advanced since he was born and sometimes those are the ones that get in trouble. I believe he has probably learned his lesson now and crashing into things is in his past! 🙂
