Fledge Watch 6-18-15
By Rochester Falcon Watcher MAK
It was a beautiful sunny day with a delicious breeze and a temperature around 80. My first sighting was Cadence at 5:30am on the northeast corner of the Powers building as I approached on State St. Next stop was Main and State St. to check for Genesee on the Wilder building-he was gone so I proceeded to the Broad St. Bridge (BSB) where I found Dans’ friend Mary by Falcon Watcher Central (top of the stairs to the hole). Dan had gone looking for Bronx but it turned out it was Genesee he had seen flying. I caught up with him by Times Square (TSB) where he told me Genesee was on the south side of the Monroe County Office building just north of Widows Walk. I quick checked on Genesee then went back to BSB to find Bronx. He was on the Wilder building-I believe he was there all along.
I went back to Broad St. to watch Genesee while Dan and Mary kept an eye on Bronx. Dana was downtown and she went to keep track of Cadence. Carol arrived around 6:30am. I would share space with our little dare devil Genesee until 7am when he went over to the east side where I couldn’t see him and took off. He ended up on Thomson Reuters.
Meanwhile Cadence had left the Powers building and ended up on TSB on the northeast corner in the back of the building. I’d spent most of yesterday with the boys so I decided to go watch Cadence but not before Genesee flew to the Wilder building and reunited with his brother. What a sweet scene that was to see! I got settled on Irving Place with Dana to check out Cadence who spent most of the day on the same ledge.
Cadence went back on the ledge where we couldn’t see her so I went down Broad St. and got far enough away by Washington St. where I could see her. I stayed there until noon or so. I returned to Irving Place and stayed there until 4pm when I ended my watch.
Genesee flew in and landed on Widows Walk-Dot.ca (DC) joined him for a couple minutes. Bronx flew over to land on a small ledge below Cadence and soon after Genesee joined the family by landing on a small ledge below the northwest wing where Beauty was perched. DC was on the southeast wing ring making it a family reunion and everybody was home again!
Today was a much calmer watch which was nice. Once they make their first few flights you can relax a little knowing that they didn’t crash and burn. With each passing day their flying and landing skills will improve and they will need less and less supervision but that won’t be for a while yet. My last pick is of Beauty looking down on all 3 of our Rochester Peregrine Falcon Fledglings-all safe and sound and making all of us smile! 🙂
