We Mourn the Loss of Donna – 6/26/19

Since Sunday, June 23, 2019, the falcon watchers have put a lot of time and effort into locating Donna, the eyas from the Time Square Building scrape that was banded this year as 31/BW. Unfortunately, we found out this afternoon from the Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) that Donna’s body was found in the road near Corn Hill Landing Sunday afternoon. The person who found her eventually called the DEC on the afternoon of Tuesday, June 25th. Her body is being sent to Albany for a necropsy.

Many thanks to the falcon watchers for their efforts to find Donna. Now is the time to remember that there are three other young falcons to keep our eyes on. That is what they will be doing.

So sad. Hate losing any but Donna was special in a different way! Fly Free!

  2. Kara Cook Says:

Fly free beautiful Donna, named after a beautiful woman and dedicated falcon watcher, my Mom❤

  3. kathy Says:

She was beautiful, strong and feisty and even though her time here on earth was brief – she did what Donna always did and that was bring people together from all over the world online together to celebrate the lives of these beautiful falcons. She made us laugh and smile at her antics, like stealing food from her brothers, yelling at her mom to bring more and she surprised us all by fledging in step with her brothers…she was a special little falcon girl with a big personality. She was ‘Donna’ and even though she was only with us a short time, like her namesake, she will be forever cherished and missed.

What tragic losses…first Donna then her precious namesake. Though they are both loved and missed I truly believe they are soaring the heavens together!

I’m just heartbroken that we lost Donna. I can’t put it any better than Kathy did so I’ll just say, Fly free, Donna! You were a joy to watch and you are missed by many!

The Rochester Watchers are heartbroken. From sun up to sun down, over the past few days we searched for Donna. Checking everywhere. Hoping for a glimse of her. When we received news that she was gone, we grieved for her loss.

We will continue to Watch Jupiter, Lakota and Phoenix.

Fly Free Donna. We miss you.
