Fledge Watch- Jeanne, June 25, 2007 5:45-8 A.M.

When I arrived, two adults were on the stacks and three juvies were on Kodak tower on the 11th floor. One had one window sill to herself and two were together a bit further down on the same window sill. An adult then went onto kodak.A few minutes later, three juvies flew to building 10 which is next to the Kodak tower. One was on the left hand side, one on the peak and the third was on the antenna of that building. Dan S. said one had been fed earlier this morning. He had arrived at 5. Mariah went to the lilies and was looking all around- definitely a hunt mode with Kaver on the center stack catwalk.

About 6:25. there was a pigeon chase with Mariah in hot pursuit. Two juveniles went after Mariah in high hopes of getting food. No luck so they returned to their positions. There was a LOT of kakking going on.

At 6:30, to our amazement, a STOOP!!!! An adult right? NO!!! A juvie stooped on a small bird with sustained flight, perfect form and great flying! She didn’t get her bird and returned to the peak of building 10!!!

A few minutes later, Kaver appeared with food , two juvies in the air in pursuit. There seemed to be a food exchange with one juvie eating.. Larry saw Kaver come in as he was walking around the parking lot and area looking for babies. One juvenile landed on the black building between 10 and kodak tower, one was on the peak of building 10 and the other went to building 9 which is on the other side of the kodak building. Kathy G and Mike came.

A bit later, another pigeon chase with Mariah at the helm. Mariah flew back to the 17th floor, Kaver to the High Falls stack with a baby behind him, kakking.

A very weird thing happend at 7 A.M. Kaver, began followed by Mariah, with what sounded like a battle cry. Mariah was swooping wildly near the roof of building 10. One juvie was on the peak and the other farther down. They didn’t seem fazed but the parents were really agitated.Kathy G described it as the type of behavior we see during banding day. We wondered if someone was on or near the roof of that building. Both parents returned to their perches, Mariah on 17 and Kaver on the center stack.

Lisa and Paul came by with Lucy joining a bit later. There was juvie flying and landing and toward the end of my shift, one stayed on the roof of building 10. One also seemed to fly in from the back of building 9.

So, this morning was fairly eventful, the highlight being a juvie swoop!
