Carol P. – Juvies Still Hanging Out, But Fewer and Fewer Sightings – July 30, 2008 (Morning)

First, here is a video (taken on 7/29/08) of three of the juvies flying around the Xerox Tower in Downtown Rochester.  The three were playing talon tag high above me.  The only one I was able to positively ID was Quest.  She was definitely one of the three.

They’re still hanging out around the city, gorge and Kodak Tower, but
sightings are fewer now.

I did find a young Falcon eating on the north west corner of Midtown
Plaza (Downtown) this morning (7/30). She finally showed me her band.
Yes Amy, it was Seneca!  Nice meeting you today.

Enjoy the day everyone.

You are very good with a camera, particularly a video camera – very steady hand following those juvies!! 😀

Hi Carol – So glad to have met you in person. I see your patience won out and you got a show of leg-band! Thanks!

Great pictures, you did a great job..thanks

What a treat to see them flying around! And I loved that they were
making their cool “kayking” sounds…..you did a great job considering
how fast they were flying around, thanks so much!

Do you think any of the munchkins have made a kill yet? Once they do, are they gone for good, or do they still hang out for a time?

  6. Carol P. Says:

    Thanks everyone!

grOttO – We have not witnessed a successful hunt yet, but that doesn’t mean there hasn’t been one. These juvies are incredible fliers, and I wouldn’t be surprised if one or more has hunted successfully.

In 2006, I saw Rhea Mae catch a small bird and kill it. She remained for quite awhile after that, still begging for food from mom and dad. 😉

I haven’t figured out who it is yet, but somebody likes to hang out in the morning at the very top of the Sibley building, northwest corner. I keep hoping he/she will come over to Midtown which is right across the street from the Chase tower. Hopefully within the next two weeks. I’ll let you know. I posted before that one of the juvies was sitting there and then went chasing the pigeons. I was hoping to see him/her snag one, but didn’t.

    God bless you all!!

Thanks Carol for taking the time to keep watch. It’s nice that you are sticking with this. Well, it’s nice for the rest of us to.

    Have a great week.

Any estimate of when Quest goes live via satellite? Also, will it be the same web site as past years?

  10. Maureen in MA Says:

No entries in quite awhile – is the season now officially over? 🙁

  11. Rosamund Says:

Fledgewatch is officially over, Maureen, so reports are likely to be sporatic and unpredictable. Unofficially, people are up to something atop the First Fed bldg (a fave hangout of M&K). Alas, no news here.

  12. Maureen in MA Says:

Thanks for the confirm, Rosamund. It was a great season!
