Lucy A- Monday, June 16 10AM-Noon
Mariah and Kaver spent much of the first half hour of my watch soaring around the tower, apparently enjoying the strong breeze which made it possible to stay aloft for surprisingly long periods without bothering to flap their wings. The weather was clear and not too hot – beautiful conditions for fledge watching. The shade provided by the new watchers’ headquarters made it very comfortable. There was very little visible activity by the eyases during this time. Finally Kaver
perched on his favorite lily and Mariah on the ledge at the east side of the arch, just above the nestbox.

Carol P. arrived around 10:30 and we soon saw vigorous wing-flapping at the west side of the nest box. (The cameras confirmed that it was Susan B on the ledge there). A few minutes later we saw Zephyr, flapping his wings in the playpen and running back forth as if encouraging Susan B to join him – which she eventually did, a few minutes after 11:00. Mariah moved to the ledge at the east side of the nest box. Kaver chased a turkey vulture away and returned to his lily. There was lots of wing exercising but no fledging, and also no feeding, before I had to leave at noon.
