I saw 2 falcons today-a glimpse of one at Seneca Towers before it flew away and Beauty for about 3 minutes as she landed on the Kodak Office launchpad.

Donna had tweeted seeing Beauty on the Mercury money bag at 7:04am-I arrived downtown just a minute or two after that. I can’t tell you how many times I drove around downtown in search of our feathered friends-they were playing hide and seek today, well actually, mostly hide! At 7:30am while I was checking the north side of Kodak Office I spotted Beauty fly in from the east and land up on the southeast corner of the launchpad.

Her back was to me so I drove down State St. and parked on the south side of the tower where I could see the Beautyful one from the front.

I started taping Beauty but she would allow us only 2 and a half minutes of observing her before she flew south never to be seen again on my watch.

I spent the next hour looking around downtown and decided to check the Brighton Site but had no luck there either. I took a few other pics in my travels. Abraham Lincoln monument and a squirrel eating a nut or acorn in Washington Square Park, a gull on the Court St. bridge, a fall window scene at St. Mary’s Church and a piece of art work in the Bausch & Lomb circle.

I gave up my search for falcons at 9:30am calling it a watch at a falcon-less Seneca Towers. Beauty did put a smile on my face for a few moments – that’s all folks! 🙂

It really is a pretty city-I’ve come to love and appreciate downtown so much since I started watching falcons in it. Never really knew my way around until I started chasing falcons!! LOL Thanks for noticing our beautyful city! 🙂

Was surprised to see a falcon in my suburban Brighton backyard yesterday morning (11/9/14). S/He was perched on a chain link fence, and it was quickly apparent that he was stalking sparrows. I did not act quickly enough to get my camera with a long lens, unfortunately.

I’ve seen them around town and on I-590 lampposts during my commutes, but this is the first time I’ve seen one in our neighborhood.

  6. MAK Says:

Jim, it was most likely a hawk that you saw. Peregrine Falcons don’t hunt from chain link fences. They snatch their prey on the wing. They do however hang out on lamp posts but again you’re probably seeing hawks on I-590. I’ve seen Red-tail Hawks near the Browncroft area of I-590 on lamp posts. Keep your camera handy so you can get some pics-I’d love to see, whether it be a hawk or a falcon and thanks for commenting! 🙂

I live in the W. Ridge Rd (right behind Kodak) area and the falcon comes to our yard quite frequently, sitting on the fence and looking for birds, in fact we have see him get a couple. It is definitely the falcon and not a red-tailed hawk. We know when he is around because there are no birds at the feeder.
