Mariah at Kodak Park & Archer Downtown – 8/15/09

From Rochester Falcon Watcher Carol P.

It was a really hot, humid day today, so Dan and I planned on getting out to Kodak Park early this morning to hopefully see Mariah or the unbanded Juvie.

Dan and I were sitting on the street on the gorge side (east) of KP. At 7:15 am, Mariah flew in from the south, low over us and then up to the Research Lab Bldg. where she circled the building and landed on the antenna.

For 45 minutes we were able to get really close looks at her through the scope.   Her left leg was bandless, but I was unable to see the right leg to verify the blue/yellow band.

I am 99.9% sure this was Mariah. It looked like Mariah.

Kathy O joined me near the building and took a look through the scope. She agreed that it was Mariah.

At 8:00 am, she flew off of the building and headed towards the gorge. We
didn’t see her again after that.

It was wonderful seeing her looking so well.  She was beautiful in the early morning light.   2thumbsup

Needless to say, Dan, Kathy and I will be out again tomorrow morning.

Afterwards, I picked up Brian H, and we drove around downtown. We found Archer on the Widows Peak building. No Beauty sightings.

That’s great that you were able to eye Mariah again. Very happy to hear she is still doing well in her city! Thanks for the post!

She was sooo cooperative in captivity, you could hope she would continue that and extend her banded leg at every scope in sight ;-D She seemed to “know” she is a star, but she apparently is the Greta Garbo kind.

Thank you so much for letting us know M is still around and doing well in what may be her new territory. Maybe next time she will allow you a closer look at her. But it gladens my heart to know she is well. Thank you again for braving the heat to get a peak of her.

When you say “the Research Lab building,” which research lab building are you talking about? Building 59, 81, 82 or 83?

  5. Carol Says:

@Joanne – I believe the tall building at the corner of Lake and Merrill is Bldg. 83, but I’m not 100% sure.

Glad to hear she is looking so good, wish I could see her. She seems to stay around the downtown area, I wish her well.
