Falcon Watch Weekend – 8/22 & 8/23/09 – Archer and Beauty – No Mariah
From Rochester Falcon Watcher Carol P.
Lots of Watchers were out this weekend looking for Mariah, Archer and Beauty. I had no luck finding Mariah, but Archer and Beauty were hanging out near the Times Square nest box. I’ve put tother a KGallery album to share. The first few pictures are of Archer and Beauty from this morning (Sunday, 8/23). The rest of the pictures are of things I’ve seen over the past week.

Most of the action seems to have moved to the forum. But I have trouble reading there because not all posted images show up for me. For example annieinelkart recently wrote “I captured a couple pictures of the happy couple this morning and am going to try and post them on here. My fingers are crossed in hopes that it works! ” and other readers complimented her on the pictures. For me there is NOTHING. This is not the first time that this has happened to me on the forum. I wonder what it could be that some images and movies are fine and others are just empty space (no box with a red x, no place where my cursor changes shape to tell me there is a hidden link).
Has any guru an idea what causes this?

Alison, the only difference I see is that she posted them as attachments where others are embedded in the post. I posted a question to Shaky about it…hopefully he’ll have a suggestions. I sometimes have trouble with pictures at work due to an old machine with limited memory.

Guests of the forum can’t see attached files. Only logged in members can. I have modified annieinelkart’s post to include the thumbnailed links to the pictures in the archive. This is the preferred way to share pictures because it doesn’t take up space on our server like attachments do. However, we allow attachments because we want to encourage members to share pictures and want to make it as easy as possible for them to do so. This may cause some inconvenience for guests, but members’ needs must take precedence.
At some point, I hope to have Yarak the forum bot automatically replace attached pictures with thumbnailed links to pictures in an rfalconcam forum album on one of the free photo gallery sites.

I have trouble reading the Forum as well. It seems to be a lot more work to get one spot information we used to get here. I guess I’m just old school 🙂

Nothing has changed here. Falcon watches are still reported here.
