Fledge Watch 6-22-15
By Rochester Falcon Watcher MAK
It was a nice morning for a fledge watch with a starting temperature of 60 (F) and mostly sunny skies
I started my watch with Dan on the Broad St. bridge and Beauty was under the northeast wing of Times Square (TSB). There were no juvies around so I left to look for them. I found one on Crossroads and one on the Powers building. I was on the Andrews St. bridge (ASB) when the third falcon popped its head out from behind the railing and then they were both gone. I
I went down to TSB and came across Beauty beak feeding Genesee. Some sweet moments there and then Beauty cached the leftovers at which point Genesee ran down and chased mom off the building. They both flew over to Widows Walk on the north side. They left from there with the Beautyful one going east and Genesee north.
I left and didn’t find any juvies but Beauty and DC were on Widows Walk. She had food and he was watching her. She finished eating and they flew off just as Carla joined me on watch. After a long time we finally saw a juvie on the Powers building thanks to Carol who tweeted it out from work as she was watching the livestream. This would turn out to be Genesee  because it turned out that Bronx had hurt himself and was put in the nest box well after being found by Rich Calabrese, the owner of Times Square. And just after I arrived to watch Genesee, I got a call from Dana saying that Cadence had been found on a retaining wall on Corinthian St. Carla and I found her on a planter box above the underground parking garage at the base of the OCSR building.
Joyce arrived and was watching from the end of Corinthian St. while Carla and I had been watching from the river side up one story from where Joyce was. Apparently, Cadence was first spotted on the lamp post above where she was and then she fluttered down to the box around 7am. Cadence seemed quite alert and her wings and legs were working fine. She just needed to get her bearings since nothing looked familiar to her. Carla left and Carrie joined Joyce. Cadence ended up hopping onto the railing next to the planter box and slipped off, forcing her to take wing and fly.
Cadence flew up State St. not too far and landed on a west side 4 story building across from the Rochester Plaza Hotel. Meanwhile poor Bronx had been rescued by the Department of Environment and Conservation (DEC). He had possible leg/foot injuries. Hope he can get back to us and his family.
I ended my watch around 3:30pm as Joyce,Carrie and Brian were on watch and I felt that Cadence was ok. Although we all feel bad about Bronx we can still smile over the fact that Cadence got up and flying again! 🙂

As much as we didn’t like to see her down so low, you got some AMAZING shots of her! What a pretty girl! Hope tomorrow she gets back to her “home away from home” the Powers NB! lol Prayers for our sweet, spunky Bronx, that his injuries aren’t too serious & stay outta trouble Genesee, or else! 😀

Thanks for a most excellent report, stills and videos, MAK. Loved the video of B feeding her adorably demanding son, Genesee. So interesting that there was no foot traffic to disturb Cadence from her temporary, low perch. She did appear well, and quite at ease with you standing nearby. Poor, dear little Bronx. What a generous and brave soul that was who moved Bronx to a safer (more familiar) location while waiting for the DEC. I hate to think what would have happened to Bronx if not for watchful eyes and caring humans who know what needs to be done. Many thanks to all involved. Fingers crossed for a positive outcome!

Well MAK,for sure it was an a eventful day.Lots of activity from the juvies. Am hoping along with everyone, that Bronx will have a safe and good recovery so he can return.Too bad he was hurt in his adventure of flying.
Usual good pictures and videos.Glad you had such good luck in catching what you did today.

Barb, it was a pretty isolated area and more specifically away from the busy State St. The best we can hope for is that Bronx can return after a short stay. 🙂
