Morning Falcon Watch 11-29-15
By Rochester Falcon Watcher MAK
The temperature this morning was exactly at the freezing point of 32 (F) 0 (C) with overcast skies and very little wind
Billie and Seth were not present at Seneca Towers (ST) this morning but I did see one or both yesterday afternoon toward sundown on 3 separate occasions. I believe it was Seth that flew down past my window toward the river, then a few minutes flew back through heading south. About an hour later just before dark, I saw a falcon flying out over the river heading toward the south end of ST.
When I arrived downtown I found Beauty on the south side of Xerox 6 columns form the southeast corner. She was looking for breakfast and took off shortly after I stopped. She returned a minute or so later and landed on the 5th column this time (her favorite column).
At 7:49am the Beautyful one flew off, circled the perimeter of Xerox twice, then left my field of vision from Chestnut St. to the northwest.
I went over to the Court St. bridge to have a look around and decided to check out the river while I was there. Only gulls were down in the river between the Court St. and Broad St. bridges including a very large one that looked to be a juvie Great black-backed gull.
I left there when I spotted Beauty over on the southwest corner of Widows Walk with prey. I parked on Broad St. at Fitzhugh St. to watch as she was plucking feathers in preparation to eat her fresh catch.
Larry stopped by for a minute or two during the time Beauty was eating-he was happy to see a falcon. I left Beauty to look for Dot.ca (DC) around 8:35am.
I found DC over on the top I-beam of OCSR southeast side with a full crop-that boy sure knows how to stuff himself! I parked at the Radisson Hotel by Main St. to share space with him for a few minutes.
I checked the Medley Centre and found 4 Irondequoit Police cars at the southeast entrance of the mall. I could see a broken window next to the doors where someone had obviously broken in to the mall. No sign of Big Frank today-I got an e-mail from watcher Dick, saying he had seen a falcon on the glass roof over the carousel yesterday morning around 10am.
I made my way home to Seneca Towers, but again no Billie or Seth hanging out on the building. I still ended my watch with a smile at 9:20am after seeing Beauty filling her crop and DC with an already filled crop! 🙂
