Carol P. – Fledge Watch – June 26, 2008 – (6-8 pm)
After Kelly left, I took over the Watch. She just missed Mariah’s
stoop off of the tower after a pigeon in front of the new housing
units being built across the street. Brian, Susan C and I watched in
amazement as Mariah did a move that just seemed impossible. She is
truly unbelieveable.
I had to leave for a moment and when I returned, I was told by Briah
H and Susan C that I had missed Mariah’s 2nd stoop off of the tower.
This time she snagged a Starling over the courtyard in front of
building. Darn! Brian said he never saw the small bird pass in
front of the tower. Instead he followed Mariah’s path and all he saw
was a “POOF” of feathers when Mariah hit the Starling.
We were joined by the nighttime Watchers, including Carrie, Shaky,
Jeanne, Joyce, Lucy, Dana, Lou and a couple who’s names escape me.
(Sorry!)
There was ALOT of flying during my Watch by all of the Fledglings and
M&K. Seneca ended up back at the playpen, under the nest box. Susan
B flew out to the smoke stack and was joined by Zephyr. They preened
each other. Ahhhhh! 😉
Lots of talon tag games were played, food was brought in. When I
left at 8:00 p.m., all 5 juvies were accounted for. What a beautiful
day it was for a watch.

Thats a great watch for you..all 5 juvies are doing okay..I am sooooooooo glad. I can’t believe how fast they have grown and what they can do already, being only 2 months. Thanks you for the report, I am always looking for updates.

My family and I had a real treat last night, we came downtown early so we could catch some views of our little falcon family before the Red Wing game. They did not disappoint. We could see several falcons spread out over the Kodak Tower. We were treated to a few short flights before the game even started. Our seats were along the first base side so we had great viewing all night, albeit a bit far. We could see lots of flying…over to the smokestack and back, we saw a few games of tag, and a long flight to the north, I assume was one of the adults on a hunt. It was a beautiful night for a game, and I must admit I was more excited about seeing the falcons than the dismal loss of the game. A huge thanks to everyone at this site, and to all those out there working to preserve this amazing species!!
