My sympathy to friends and family. It is a great loss. She was a unique individual. I will always remember being entertained by her chicken!! So glad I got to meet her in Rochester.

I was just thinking about that. I feel for folks in Rochester. I was there a few years ago during protests and noticed that it is not the people of Rochester, but those who came from afar to cause trouble and get their faces on the news. Rochester, NY and Portland, OR are plagued. But I also have too many avian responsibilities in my own house to go away for a weekend.
Good luck, my friends and stay safe as you keep an eye to the skies. Also, keep yourselves upright.

BM/13 was released from atop 101 Hudson, Jersey City at 10 this morning. Kathy Clark rinsed her to slow her exit and loaded the area down with quail to try and attract her siblings back to the box. A little later after gorging that bird was bathing again in the drain water on the roof. The fledgling apparently had learned that the world down below was not a good place to be. Her parents and siblings were elsewhere, I believe in the shade to the north. Four and a half hours later she took off from the building and left some of the quail. I could not wait that long in the hot sun and wanted to escape the NYC Friday getaway traffic, so I was gone at noon and just saw her leave on the cam at 2:30 pm.

Now for some relatively good news. Cadence was released this morning from The Raptor Trust in Millington, NJ. We are all hoping that she does not return to Elizabeth. Kathy Clark said it was time for her to go. I say, probably way past time. Kathy also said she has distinctive scarring on her face and head. We all remember that Beauty didn't look so good, either, when she came back to Rochester. Safe travels, Cadence. I would love to see you up in my area, but there are way too many falcons along the Hudson River here.

Hi, ALL! I'll miss the event again this year. So glad to hear that the fledglings are doing well. (I hope I didn't miss a disaster before writing this post) I'm blessed to be able to watch falcon fledglings here. Thank you, Rochester falcon folks, for all the training I got over the past 14 years and will get in the future. You have no idea how much that has helped.

Some sad/or?? news about Akira, Cadence's daughter at Union County Courthouse in Elizabeth, NJ
Some sad news...Zoologist, Kathy Clark just received a report that BD/73, a female falcon that fledged the Union County nest site in 2018, was apparently injured by a plane propeller at an airport. Her right wing was amputated by the propeller. According to Kathy, "Because she was so calm and easy to handle when rescued, she was nursed back to health and kept in captivity for public education. She's currently in training to stand on the glove for programs." (in Virginia) The incident was reported on January 11, 2019.
