By Rochester Falcon Watcher MAK
One year ago today on Good Friday we lost Unity when she was run over by a car on Broad St. by the Central Library. I'd like to dedicate todays watch report to her memory.
This morning I started my watch under overcast conditions with a temperature of 36 (F)- 2 (C)...

I recorded this video last year on Good Friday, April 6, 2012. There never was a really good time to post it. So I'll follow MAK's lead & piggyback on her watch report in memory of Unity.

I had to leave after I shut off the recorder, but I believe this was the last time Unity was at the nest box.

Saddest thing is, not a single off spring from such a magnificent falcon.

I firmly believe if it hadn't been for her egg in the nest box that Dot & Beauty wouldn't have worked it out last year. So she did help Orion into the world...

Thanks for the dedication, MAK, and thanks for the clip, Ei.  RIP magnificent Unity, niece of Beauty, daughter of Belle and granddaughter of Dorothy.  I shuddered when I read that Pigott went after some wild turkeys on the ground today.  I'm glad that today's results weren't tragic.  These beautiful birds should never go anywhere near the ground (or the road)!   crying

That's right Ei,Orion and Unity are cousins.   heart

And Patsy no need to sweat it, for it was a warning not a serious stoop for food.  Grin

I do believe that despite all the sadness of last Good Friday, that some "good" did come out it in that Unity's egg did keep Orion company, and maybe brought some solidarity to the partnering of Beauty and Doc.ca - which has still been uneasy this year.  I hope, Carol, that you will once again post that wonderful picture you took of Unity an the Moon!

Glad to hear it, MAK.  Funny, for not having offspring herself, Unity was connected to many of our falcons; niece and rival of Beauty, cousin of Orion, and mate to Archer and Dot.ca.  And though Pigott doesn't know it, in many ways she is Unity's successor.  Let's hope she becomes a mom and has a long and healthy life.

Yes, wouldn't it be wounderful if there were two nests here this year, and two sets of babies?  Am I asking too much?
