When we see these stories, a bit of background research backs up the adage, "take it from whence it comes".  The article itself admits that the man thought the animal was a Coyote, refuting the premise that he did it for a "trophy".  The story is from one of the FBI's list of domestic terrorist organizations:

It is pretty cool that we had a wolf in Kentucky, but yes, a serious bummer that it was shot.
