THESE stunning images of an aerial daylight robbery 'dogfight’ were captured by award-winning wildlife photographer Paul Blackley.
Paul, was out photographing a barn owl in the West Wight just before sunrise, initially getting a shot of the owl on a post and then it capturing a vole for breakfast.
"But, only seconds later, a kestrel swooped in at speed and attacked the owl to snatch the vole," he said.
"The barn owl tried to escape but the kestrel pursued it, having a couple of goes to get the vole. Eventually, the kestrel got a good grip and both birds tumbled to the ground before the kestrel took off, victorious," said Paul, 40, from Summers Lane, Totland.
"It is rare that everything is perfect for photographs and in this case the subject matter couldn’t have been better but the light level was low which meant that technically they were not the best images.
