Hi All,

I arrived at the Gardens on New Year’s day round about 10 and started scanning the area in search of Nessi. No luck. At 10:30 I saw the parents disappearing over the Western Ridge. I have no idea where they were coming from, as I was glued to my binocs.

Monique arrived at about 11:00, and said that she was at the Gardens the previous day, and found both parents at the Butchers Rock looking down, so we concentrated on that area. Low and behold, not long after that, Monique found Nessi. By now Bill and Christine had arrived, and while Bill was setting up the Scope, we were keeping tabs on Nessi so as not to loose sight of him. Things happened so fast after that, that I cannot remember what happened. I remember that he spent some time at the Three White Rocks. It was “Showtime�. There was a wonderful display of stretching wings, jumping into the tree and quite a bit of flapping around. There were no sign of the parents, so we concluded that they decided it was time to leave Nessi “Home Alone�

Monique and I went to fetch some beers, (it was after all New Year’s day), and we continued to watch Nessi getting up to his tricks, gradually gaining height to the top of the ridge. In the late afternoon he took a beautiful flight over the ridge, and at that stage Monique and I left Bill and Chris, so they might have more to add to this rather special day.

I am not a good story teller, but I hope this will give some insight into the day, and sorry that you all could not make it to have experienced a wonderful day.

Black Eagle monitoring with new volunteer, Marinda Vermaak, chilly and windy, eagles doing fine, male went hunting. Peregrine Falcon already had its breakfast on the lawn.

Em is seen feeding Her remaining Young. I guess the other didnt make it seeing it isnt seen here. Rest in peace Little One. Life was hard for you but the pain & abuse from your Sibling is over.......
