OK, mom put the deceased eyas on the other side! Don't forget, Polly and Argo are brother and sister! At least they have 1 healthy eyas to raise. Nest failed last year also.
Nicole said that this isn't a bridge like I thought, but an overpass that they nest under. Polly was seen carrying something that looked like a baby and, as they were going to band any babies anyway, they went up to see what she had placed on the other side and found the dead one. The other was healthy and banded without any disturbance from either parent, they just watched. They also found an unhatched egg which will be examined plus a necropsy will be done on the deceased baby. Last year, she had a deceased baby too that she laid beside for several days..was heartbreaking to see. There's a pic on FB of the area where they nest..sad because they attached a nice box for them close to this that they won't use. Both babies are females and they might give the surviving one a name later.

I wonder if anyone has suggested to them - that when they banded the surviving baby, they move the live one to the nest box to entice the parents there? So long as it's not too far away of course.
It has been done successfully in Manitoba and it worked. Then perhaps next year they would consider the nest box.
I know it's late now and they've already banded baby but perhaps for next year?

I don't know exactly why carly but I know this highway(echangeur Turcot) have to be destroyed soon. Maybe it's the reason.

Is it going to be replaced then? Maybe it will be better for them to find another place because that doesn't look too safe for them by the looks of the top of the nest site...looks like a large piece of concrete is ready to break off.
