The eagle and the falcons….From Sunday's (8/10) Fledge Watch by Carol P.

On Sunday, a young eagle flew over downtown.  Beauty and Dot.ca rose above the eagle and took turns stooping on it.  The eagle went into defense mode, talons up and full barrel rolls.  The falcons were relentless.  This was their territory and their young were below.  They could not allow a dangerous predator to remain in their city.

The battle seemed to go on for a very long time.  The eagle was confused and obviously had no idea what direction to take.  The Peregrines weren't giving up.

As the trio headed southeast, a third falcon joined in.  Now there were three falcons escorting the eagle out of their territory.  One of the young males, Nor’easter or Mercury had joined in and took his turn stooping on the eagle alongside his parents.

Finally, the eagle left the falcon’s territory heading south and all three Peregrine’s broke off the attack.  But, the young tiercel had other ideas.  He wasn’t ready to quit.  This was way too much fun!  The watchers on the pedestrian bridge who had witnessed this amazing encounter between Peregrine and Bald Eagle were amused when the young male started to stoop on his parents!

I could just imagine Beauty telling her young son to please practice on his father.   laugh

How AWESOME that was to behold!  And I'm sure Dot.ca was thinking "Hey!  Stop that! What did I do?"    laugh
