I don't think Spring is coming any time soon. Here near Allentown PA it is currently 0 degrees with a 4" layer of snow and ice on the ground. Chickadees are not yet singing their "fee-bee" song, juncos are still here in force at the feeders, male cardinals and gray squirrels have not yet begun to attack each other in territorial and/or mating battles, robins are staying close to their swampy winter headquarters, and none of the deciduous trees show signs of budding. For me, the first and most reliable sign of Spring is the arrival of male red-wing blackbirds staking out territory.

My singing Cardinal on Sunday was the first and only sign of the coming Spring.  The snow banks on the sides of my driveway and street are about 3-4 foot high.  Too much snow on the roofs.  There is going to be a lot of damage when this all starts to melt.  Have to shovel most days, sometimes twice, even with a plow guy.  I am so ready for SPRING!!!   yahoo finch flowers

Aafke, please post some pictures of your wonderful garden!!   wave

No sign of Spring here, birds all fighting over FOOD!! Hawk desperately hungry, he actually flew into my Christmas tree out back after a Sparrow. I went out and spooked him and  when he flew off, he smacked into a tree trunk! Oops, sorry!! I can't seem to keep these guys full, the HUGE crows devour everything out there, no food for the wee ones!! Blue Jays sit on my back porch railing screaming for peanuts. I created monsters and now I can't stop it!! The Starlings eat the cat food on my porch that Black Kitty and DJ left and Black Kitty is right there in her lil condo. She's even too cold to go after them. Yeah, no Spring here!! Snow is cool!

No smilies cuz I'm just too lazy!!

By the lake in Irondequoit we still have close to two feet of snow on the ground, not counting the drifts and the piles made by the plows.  I really don't mind the cold that much, except for the fact that it's been so cold that the endless amounts of snow we're getting doesn't melt.  At least the roads were fairly good today, unlike most other days lately.

Here are some pictures I took last summer.  The black-eyed susans and the echinacea were in our garden and the sunflower was at a friend's farm.  Enjoy!

I know spring is coming because Beauty and DC have been checking out their nest the last few days!! I have nothing but smiles because the worst is behind us and I know the sun will come, the snow will melt and the birds will sing!   happy
