Tim Horton's at East Main and Exchange Shuts Down

Watchers have lost a bathroom, a coffee source and, perhaps most importantly, an oatmeal raisin cookie source. There's always Tim Horton's at the library, I guess.

Hopefully they'll all be relocated at another Tim Horton's. I went there probably a couple of times per week, and always found the staff to be very friendly and helpful. I wonder what will go into that spot. I remember there was an Atlanta Bread Co. there at one time, and it was a Bruegger's Bagels before Atlanta Bread Co.

Tim Horton's at State & Main closed. Company blames the transit center opening. Killed foot traffic & sales.

This is the coffee company? As a non-coffee drinker, Tim Horton's is one of the very few cups that I will drink. Sadly, you will probably get a Burger King (if there isn't one in the neighborhood) since Horton's and Burger barf merged last December.

I was thinking the same thing. What's the transit center?

It's the RTS Transit Center that just opened at the end of November in the blocks between St. Paul Street and Clinton Avenue. It's a downtown bus hub, which means they've closed the majority of the bus stops that were located along Main Street, St. Paul Street and Clinton Avenue. That includes a formerly popular bus stop near Tim Horton's.

That Transit Center has caused more problems than just shutting down Tim Horton's. It has congested an already busy area of downtown and given the hoods another place to gather to fight and get in trouble. Sometimes progress is not worth the side effects it causes.

I did hear about this, now that you tell me what it is. What a shame it's affected so many businesses. So instead of getting on/off buses throughout downtown at various stops, everyone has to get on/off at this center and walk to their destination?

Yep, pretty much. Stops have been eliminated along the downtown portions of Main Street, Broad Street, St. Paul Street/South Avenue and Clinton Avenue. I used to get off the bus at the corner of Main and St. Paul Streets in the morning. My bus's gate at the transit center is now located very near Clinton Avenue, so that has added a couple of blocks to my walk into work in the morning. Not too bad. I doubt that the closing of this Tim Horton's is just because of the transit center, though. I think the weather this winter has been a factor (I know I and most of my co-workers did not walk outside that much in sub-zero weather), as has the opening of a Dunkin Donuts just a couple blocks away on State Street.

And let's not forget all the bus stop shelters that are now just places for the homeless to sleep in. I'd like to know how much tax payer money is lost on them. There's at least 6 of them in a row on Broad St. by HSBC. I don't usually talk politics but this country is run by idiots and crooks-local, state and federal officials only care about their agenda not the people that pay their salaries. Why should they care that hard working people have to walk extra blocks to catch their bus, after all they have vehicles and/or chaffeurs to get them to where they have to go. I'd like to see one of those fat cats in Washington have to feel the degradation of standing in a welfare line to ask for help because their income just doesn't cut it. Sorry, guess I got a little carried away-ok, I'm done...

Well, that doesn't make much sense..whose idea was this? I read that DD could have been a factor too.
