Humans come and steal their babies..yeah they'll be all over that area wanting to nest.  Work like this is planned a year in advance, they should have relocated the nest box BEFORE the nesting season...honestly how does this organization call it's an environmental agency?  It's a corporate puppet.

The stress that will be placed on those birds with them 'stealing' their kids and the loss of their home while work is being done - how can any agency say it's for the protection of the species in one breath and then make a bone headed decision like this with another?

What the h-e-double hockey sticks?  They're going to take the eyases away at two weeks old, totally freaking out the parents and the eyases.  How very sad and unnecessary.

That's horrible and extremely thoughtless! Why didn't they have the decency to relocate the nest at the end of last season, since they knew it would be in the way where it is now? Poor falcon parents. crying

OMG! How stupid can people be? They are setting up a tragedy. Lets see humans come and steal the essays, then spend the summer crawling all over the nest tower, I see falcons dive bombing the workers, then they will say they are a danger to people and have to "taken care of" because they are too aggressive.  stupid

NEWS: Yea! First pic shows the UB eyasses now safely ensconced at Hawk Creek with Blaze, who is fostering the chicks. There are two boys and a girl. One non-viable egg left in the box was taken by the DEC for examination. Initially there had been a fifth egg but it was no longer in the nest box. It could have hatched but not lived, or been discarded by Dixie.
Next two pix taken the next day show Dixie and the last pic is Yankee. They will not abandon the site.
UB initially wanted to start the restoration work on the smokestack sooner, but working with the DEC allowed for the chicks to reach banding age with the parents. The DEC arranged with Hawk Creek to raise the chicks and get them to the point of being able to survive on their own. Nothing was done spur-of-the-moment, but was figured out and well planned in advance.
Although this move is upsetting to some, it was a necessary for the historic tower to be repaired. That is a big job which can only be done in the summer here in Buffalo. The other alternative was to cover the tower or make the nest box unavailable for this year, but no one wanted that.
Please, understand and accept what is without giving negative feedback, what was worked out and done as the best option for the Peregrines. Negativity such as we've seen before, directed here and at the DEC, provide nothing positive so please vent elsewhere. smile emoticon Negative posts, texts, calls or emails will be deleted.
We will provide follow-up news and pix.
If you have any further questions, please text me through Facebook or email if you would rather, sage836@gmail.com, and I'll do my best to get the answers.
I've been limited to using just one hand since the shoulder surgery five weeks ago which has slowed me down a bit, but it's getting better.
