MARTIN COUNTY — A manatee suffering cold stress died Thursday after a rescue attempt, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officials said.

Officials received the call about 3 p.m. about the ailing manatee behind Wahoo’s on the Waterfront in the 400 block of Northwest Alice Avenue, Stuart, said FWC spokeswoman Gabriella Ferraro.

FWC officials and biologists from Ecological Associates in Jensen Beach responded to remove the manatee from the water.     crying
