Cabin John Peregrines -- 2015

For the first time in three seasons, the local peregrine pair has chicks! The male is unbanded (probably the same bird this year), and the female is our resident female since 2008. Black over red, V/0, both sideways, banded in NYC at the Throgs Neck Bridge on 5/17/2004 by Chris Nadareski. See my photo.
I've also posted Ricardo's picture of a food transfer. We have each seen them do this. After today's transfer, the female went in the box, presumable to feed chicks, and the male returned to guard duty. After about fifteen minutes, he left his lookout spot in a treetop on the Maryland side, crossed the Potomac to Virginia, and dove into the forest, flushing an osprey. He then made multiple attacks, at least one resulting in a hard hit that appeared to briefly stun the larger, rapidly fleeing raptor. The heightened state of alert, food transfers, and apparent feeding all point to chicks.
