Yes, that was an awful day. But as sad as it was, Kaver did an outstanding job that year. For those new here, Rhea Mae was one of the 3 that made it.

Oh Kaver was the best...no denying that. He just didn't know, there was a lot going on in that nest at the time. He took GREAT care of Mariah and we were all stunned how loving he was to her. One amazing tiercel.  crying

Dear falcon fans,

While I was bored working a two hour flight early yesterday morning from Chicago to Rapid City, South Dakota with only fifteen passengers who all went to sleep immediately after the beverage service, I decided to take a peek at the USA Today which is a popular newspaper distributed nationally.  I read the section called "Across the USA: News from every state" which is one of my favorite sections because it gives a little news blurb about each state.  Under New York, it says:

"Buffalo - Viewers who log onto the University at Buffalo South Campus' webcam were rewarded when three chicks hatched in the nest of peregrine falcons, BB and Yankee.  The school installed a camera atop the 135-foot smokestack at the Mackay Heating Plant, where the endangered species first showed up three years ago."

Pretty cool, huh?

Yours truly,
John Carlos

        BB

BB and Yankee are getting in trouble, attacking workers across the street at the VA Hospital, even knocking the hard hat off one guy!

I guess a peregrine's view of close is very different from ours.  That's a fiesty pair.  if they are not careful, they might get expelled from school!

I watched a feeding earlier this evening. As expected, the biggest eyas got the most.  I felt bad for the smallest one who was in the middle. Maybe this little one got some food when I wasn't tuned in.  When he huddled with the one close to him, instead of facing out for food, BB poked him once.

On my way to work, I heard WHAM (Buffalo) talk radio mention the UB peregrines during the news and Tom Baurle also mentioned them on his talk show.

Apparently people are getting so interested in watching the eyases on the webcam (which is linked on the radio's website) that people are calling into WHAM for answers about what is happening.  WHAM called the SPCA for answers to questions they are receiving.  WHAM announced on the radio that people should not worry about seeing the eyases left alone for periods at a time, because the parents are out hunting for food, and that this is normal.
