Sage,
Thanks for the great pics and info on the Statler and UB families!  Gosh, I hope they don't demolish the old Statler building!  We went up there to watch Handsome and Beauty's kids several years ago.  The architecture in that area is wonderful and great for falcon perching!

We are hoping to go and see the UB kids soon!

I didn't know where to post this but just saw on 6 PM news (WKBW) a report on a Peregrine Falcon found around Niagara Blvd (Buffalo area) walking in the road and it was limping.  Several people lead it to the side of the road and then called Animal control.  The DEC came and got it. They showed closeup pics of it and it looked scared but alert.  Maybe Sage knows what happened and can get some info on who it is. It was definitely a juvie and hopefully it will be alright.

It's a dangerous world for the juvies.I'm glad we have such a great group of watchers.
Hope he/she is in good hands.

All the newsman said was that it was "one of the Falcons that has been flying around."  I'm hoping that maybe Sage or maybe even Joyce can find out who it is.

Thanks, Suzanne.  I don't think anyone can afford to demolish the Statler, nor can they afford to refurbish it.  Sad situation.

Another exciting day at UB!  Ron left the nest and was happily crawling around the ledge below the box.  Meanwhile, Harry and Hagrid were flying when gulls tried to join them.  Harry got distracted and hit the ground.  Rescue details on the blog.

Poor Harry but at least he's OK. He better be a good boy now. Thanks Sage. Keep us posted.

Kris G - Check out Sage's post on Peregrine Place http://www.peregrineplace.com/. Are the are the photos Sage posted tonight the ones you saw?  Then it was Harry Potter.

Sometimes when fledglings first come to ground, they look like they are limping and it just the way they walk.  They may be unstable and exhausted from flying so hard to gain height.

Glad the new fledgling is doing okay.  Gulls were a pain in Syracuse too.  One kept buzzing Chase, a first-day fledge, when she landed on her 2nd flight.  She toppled a little.  How RUDE those gulls can be!

Kris G - Check out Sage's post on Peregrine Place http://www.peregrineplace.com/. If these are the photos you saw, then it was Harry Potter.

Sometimes when fledglings first come to ground, they look like they are limping and it just the way they walk.  They may be unstable and exhasted from flying so hard to gain height.  Unless it is obvious, when we fledge watch, we observe a downed falcon and leave it alone to see how it it behaves.

Joyce-I just watched the 11 PM news and they said that it was a juvie from the Statler Towers, that it's injured and that it was unable to fly.  DEC took it somewhere for an examination to determine the extent of the injury.
