Wonderful story! and finally a good use for bullets. Can't believe the eagle had been hanging there for 2 days and nobody came to free the bird even after the sighting reports.

A couple of updates on the eagle, now named Freedom, being cared for at The Raptor Center.
Photo: The Raptor Center
July 15
"Freedom" continues to make progress on his recovery. The swelling of his foot has mostly resolved, he is able to flex and move his toes, and he is increasing the use of his left leg and foot more normally.
He has been moved from a patient cage to a small room, where he is spending increasing amounts of time standing and walking around. We are glad to see him respond to treatment and continue to be cautiously optimistic for recovery.
A radiograph from midway through his convalescence (July 7) shows diminishing soft tissue swelling of the left foot, some mild changes (it appears as brightness on the radiograph) of the left hip joint, indicating some inflammation, several broken ribs on the left side, and shrinkage of the left leg muscles.
July 20
While overall, “Freedom” the bald eagle has made progress in his recovery, he is still not using his leg and foot normally. As a raptor must have completely normal function in order to be successfully returned to the wild, we are planning additional diagnostics to determine the extent of the damage. In the meantime, he has a new roommate in his flight room - another bald eagle. The presence of an additional bird encourages "Freedom" to move around a bit more, which exercises his leg.

From The Raptor Center:
Update on "Freedom" the Bald Eagle, August 8 2016
Photo of Freedom in his flight pen from The Raptor Center.
"Freedom", the bald eagle admitted to TRC's clinic after hanging upside down by a leg for at least two days over the 4th of July weekend, had a check-up recently.
He is perching more consistently now and the soft tissue injury to his leg is healing nicely. He has a great appetite and after eating dinner, often takes a dip in his bath pan with great enthusiasm! We remain cautiously optimistic on “Freedom’s” progress.

Updates on bald eagle Freedom, from The Raptor Center:
September 29, 2016
“Freedom” is a hatch year bald eagle (hatched earlier this year) admitted to TRC’s clinic in July after being tangled in twine and hanging from a branch upside down from his left leg for at least 2 days.
Our colleagues and partners at the Veterinary Medical Center, at the University of Minnesota’s College of Veterinary Medicine, agreed to help. They provided advanced imaging (CT angiography) to evaluate the circulation in “Freedom's” feet, particularly the leg from which he was hanging.

The results of the CT angiography are now in:
We wanted to update you on “Freedom” the bald eagle’s CT angiography results. They came back normal, meaning there is no difference in circulation/blood perfusion between the leg that hung from a branch as it was wrapped up with twine, and the other leg.
Our current plan is to continue supportive care and see if there are any signs of regeneration at the nail bed. If not, we will have to assume that the germinal layer (cells that produce the talon sheath or nail) in those toes have been damaged and are no longer functional.
