 wave   That is a female downy woodpecker. The males have red on the nape of their neck. They are sparrow sized. The hairy woodpecker is robin sized with longer bills than the downy.  Hope this helps Donna.

yes, I did notice the beak is longer on the hairy. Thanks guys, I see her every day at the feeder. The male too..with his red and the Red bellied too. Love woodpeckers.

I love the Woodpeckers too and right now they're really active at our feeder-Downy, Hairy and Red-bellied.
